Incompatible with acids (nitric acid, chlorosulfonic acid, oleum), with strong bases (sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide), with ethyleneimine and ethylenediamine. Attempts to alkylate benzene or toluene using allyl chloride in the presence of ethylaluminum chlorides have led to explosions
