Methylene chloride is employed in the manufacture of polycarbonate resin used for the production of thermoplastics. It is used as a solvent in the production of cellulose triacetate, which serves as a base for photographic film.
Other applications include its use in the solvent welding of plastic parts and as a releasing agent to prevent the manufactured part from permanently bonding to the mould.
