2,4,6- Tris-(2’ - Pyridyl )-s-Triazine ( TPTZ ) or  also can be use like 2,4,6-Tripyridyl-s-triazine. Solution of (TPTZ), .001 M were prepared by dissolving 0.312 gram of compound in a view drops of hydrochloric acid and diluting to 1 ltr with water.

 
2,4,6-Tripyridyl-s-triazine solution of (TPTZ) is useful for the calorimetric determination of iron. The Intense violet colour formed by TPTZ with iron(II) is due to the ion {Fe(TPTZ)2}+2, with only two of the three pyridyl group of each TPTZ ligand attached to the Iron atom.
 
This reagent is  also used for determination of iron in silicates, burnt refractories, and limestone etc

Estimation of BOD of water:

Reagents: Manganous sulphate solution

Alkail-iodine reagent
Starch indicator 0.00025 N Sodium thiosulphate solution Procedure:

. Three vials A, B and C was taken and filled with the water sample.

. Determine the DO of A immediately by adding 1 mL of MnSO4 + 2 mL of H2 SO4.

.ToBadding1mLofMnSO4 +2mLofH2 SO4andkeep for 5 days.

.ToCadding1mLofMnSO4 +2mLofH2 SO4 and2mL of sample water and keep for 5 days.

. After 5 days determine DO of B ( blank bottle) and C (sample bottle).

Calculation:

If the values of DO of the vials A, B and C be a, b and c then
BOD (mg /L) = (b-c) x 1000 / volume of sample in mL.

Result: The BOD of the sample is __________ mg /L.

Toxic effects of Hydrazine ( which is collected in sample ) is a severe skin and mucous membrane irritant in humans; in animals.In humans, the vapor is immediately irritating to the nose and throat and causes dizziness and nausea; itching, burning, and swelling of the eyes develop over a period of several hours. Severe exposures of the eyes to the vapors causes temporary blindness lasting for about 24 hours. Recurrent exposure to hydrazine hydrate has been reported to cause contact dermatitis of the hands without systemic intoxication. In humans, hydrazine is absorbed through the skin, by inhalation, and orally; systemic effects include weight loss, weakness, vomiting, excited behavior, and convulsions; the chief histologic findings are fatty degeneration of the liver and nephritis.
