Tyramine is found in foods that have gone bad or in foods or drinks that were made by fermenting bacteria, like beer, cheese, and tofu. Some dietary supplements contain tyramine. Tyramine (TIE-ruh-meen) is an amino acid that helps regulate blood pressure. It occurs naturally in the body, and it's found in certain foods. Medications called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) block monoamine oxidase, which is an enzyme that breaks down excess tyramine in the body.

Tyramine (also spelled tyramin), also known under several other names, is a naturally occurring trace amine derived from the amino acid tyrosine.
