Industrial use

Constituting 85% of its use, 1-butanol is mainly used in the production of varnishes. It is a popular solvent, e.g. for nitrocellulose. Uses
It is mainly used to remove sulfate impurities from the feedstock of the Chlor-alkali process. Otherwise, it is a common precursor to barium-containing compounds such as ferrites.

Barium carbonate is widely used in the ceramics industry as an ingredient in glazes.
