Overview
The primary use of DMF is as a solvent with low evaporation rate. ... It is a common solvent in the Heck reaction. It is also a common catalyst used in the synthesis of acyl halides, in particular the synthesis of acyl chlorides from carboxylic acids using oxalyl or thionyl chloride.
Applications
NN DIMETHYL FORMAMIDE 99% GC The pharmaceutical industry uses DMF as a reaction and crystallization solvent because of its exceptional solvency parameters. ... DMF is also used as carrier for inks and dyes in various printing and fiber-dying applications. DMF is widely used as a solvent, reagent and catalyst in the synthetic organic chemistry.
Dosage and directions
DMF is a common solvent for chemical reactions. Dimethylformamide is odorless, but technical-grade or degraded samples often have a fishy smell due to impurity of dimethylamine.
Characteristics and notes
N,N-Dimethylformamide is a colorless, odorless water-miscible liquid solvent used in the production of acrylic fibers, plastics, pesticides, and synthetic leather. It is also used in the manufacture of paint, film, and adhesives. Currently more than 100,000 workers per year are exposed to the solvent.
Safety and SDS
Read the safety data sheet before handling. Wear suitable gloves and eye protection.
