Overview

Aqueous solution of phenol is weakly acidic and turns blue litmus slightly to red. Phenol is easily neutralized by sodium hydroxide forming sodium phenate or phenolate, but it being weaker than carbonic acid cannot be neutralized by sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate to liberate carbon dioxide

Applications

Phenol Liquids are made from the strong hydrogen bonds. These fluids are highly soluble in water and are accessible with higher boiling points. These can be stored at room temperature and are highly caustic as well as toxic. These can be used in several household products. These liquids are also utilized as the excellent intermediates for industrial synthesis. Phenol Liquids are used as the starting material for drugs and paints. Their resins are waterproof as well as heat-resistant.

PHENOL liquid also used  in pesticides to ward off pests and pathogens from infecting the plants and to promote plant growth.

Dosage and directions

It is used for disinfecting skin and to relieve itching.

Characteristics and notes

What is the use of Phenol Liquid?

Phenol liquid is used to disinfect skin as well as relieve itching. It is functional as an anesthetic and oral analgesic in several products. This is used for surgical ingrown toenail treatment, the process of which is known as phenolization.

What is the acidity of Phenols?

It makes reaction with several active metals such as potassium, sodium etc. It is highly acidic in nature and extremely functional in the electron-withdrawing group. The acidity of the chemical can make reduction in electron density on oxygen.

What is the other name of liquid phenol?

The chemical formula of the liquid phenol is C6H6O. It is also popular as Carbolic acid. It belongs to a phenyl group and hydroxyl group which are interrelated to each other.

How does liquid phenol smell?

It has a distinctive odor, which is sickeningly sweet as well as tarry. It has no harmful effects. It gets simply evaporated and has a slow process than water. It must be used in moderate amount as the high quantity can catch fire.
