Overview

Pickling Paste Neutralizer – Stainless Steel Pickling Treatment

Pickling Paste Neutralizer is a specialized chemical used after the application of stainless steel pickling paste to neutralize residual acids and restore the treated metal surface to a safer, controlled condition.

Pickling paste is commonly used to remove weld discoloration, heat tint, oxides, and surface contamination from stainless-steel welds and fabricated components. After pickling, proper neutralization and rinsing are essential to remove acidic residues and help prevent continued chemical attack.

Pickling Paste Neutraliser is a alkaline solution for the neutralisation of acidic pickling waste. It contains an in built pH indicator to provide a visual colour change when neutralisation of spent acidic waste has been completed.

Applications

Key Applications

  • Neutralization after stainless-steel pickling

  • Treatment of stainless-steel weld areas

  • Removal/neutralization of residual pickling acid

  • Stainless-steel fabrication and maintenance

  • Pipeline and process-equipment cleaning

  • Heat exchanger and tank maintenance

  • Marine and industrial stainless-steel equipment

Pickling Paste Neutraliser allows users of pickling paste and other acidic metal treatment products to comply with pH requirements of trade waste water regulating authorities.

Dosage and directions

Typical Pickling Process

A typical stainless-steel surface-treatment sequence is:

Degreasing → Pickling Paste Application → Rinsing → Neutralization → Final Rinsing → Passivation

The neutralizer is applied only according to the product manufacturer's instructions. Concentration, contact time, and application method depend on the pickling product, stainless-steel grade, surface condition, and site requirements.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

1) Neutralisation of retained acidic waste For every litre of spent pickling waste, add approximately 1.7 litres of Pickling Paste Neutralizer. The Pickling Paste Neutralizer on contact with the spent acid waste will go clear. Keep on adding Pickling Paste Neutraliser solution till a faint pink coloration exist.

If neutralisation has not occurred with the initial dosage, then add additional quantities of Pickling Paste  Neutraliser at 100ml per litre of waste until colour change is observed.

2) Diagnostic Use After washing the pickling gel away and while still wet, spray thePickling Paste Neutraliser solution directly onto the area where the pickling gel was applied, in particular in corners and crevices. If residual acid is present an effervescent reaction will occur. Flush with water thoroughly once the effervescence has stopped.

Avoid contact with skin or eyes.

Characteristics and notes

Important Safety Note

Pickling pastes can contain strong acids and may be highly hazardous. The neutralizer should not be mixed directly with the pickling paste unless the manufacturer's instructions specifically permit it. Thorough water rinsing and appropriate PPE are normally required before neutralization.

Always consult the SDS and Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for the specific pickling paste and neutralizer being used.

Pickling Paste Neutraliser is an alkaline solution so that contact with skin and eyes is avoided. Wear eye goggles and appropriate protective clothing. If the product comes in contact with the skin immediately wash affected area thoroughly with water and soap. Seek medical attention in the event of irritation. If required remove and rinse contaminated clothing.

If the product comes in contact with the eyes, immediately hold the eyes open and wash with fresh running water. Ensure irrigation under the eye lids by occasionally lifting upper and lower lids. If pain persists or recurs, seek medical attention.
