Overview
Zinc Chloride is an ionic salt essential for the synthesis of cholesterol, protein, and fats. Zinc plays an important role in the proper functioning of the immune system.Zinc chloride is used in dry cells as an electrolyte. Other Uses - It is used as a condensing agent, disinfecting purposes, dehydrating agent, wood preservative, deodorant, and disinfectant.
Applications
Zinc sulfate and zinc chloride are used in a wide range of comparatively small-scale applications. The former is used in agriculture as a weed killer and to give protection against pests. It is also an important constituent of the precipitating bath in the manufacture of viscose rayon.
Dosage and directions
Zinc chloride is used in dry cells as an electrolyte. Other Uses - It is used as a condensing agent, disinfecting purposes, dehydrating agent, wood preservative, deodorant, and disinfectant. A mixture of zinc oxide and hexachloroethane can be used in smoke grenades.
Characteristics and notes
Dilute aqueous zinc chloride was used as a disinfectant under the name "Burnett's Disinfecting Fluid". From 1839 Sir William Burnett promoted its use as a disinfectant as well as a wood preservative.
Safety and SDS
Read the safety data sheet before handling. Wear suitable gloves and eye protection.

Zinc chloride and its aqueous solutions are corrosive to the eyes and skin. They cause conjunctivitis and corneal burns in the eye and produce chemical burns, particularly on areas where the skin is broken. Ingestion produces a corrosive action to the mouth, throat, and digestive tract which can include symptoms of stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, swelling of the throat, blood in the urine, and shock. Inhalation irritates the nose and throat producing cough, chest pain, bluish skin, fever, nausea and vomiting, shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing (onset may be delayed by several hours), and pneumonia. Fatalities have occurred by inhalation and ingestion., To the best of our knowledge, the
chemical, physical, and toxicological properties have not been thoroughly investigated.
