Stains Indicator Reagents
Laboratory & Testing
Indicators and stains are low-volume, high-impact reagents: a titration, a Gram stain or a blood smear fails without the right one. RXSOL stocks the standard list used by water, chemical, clinical and teaching laboratories. pH and complexometric indicators: phenolphthalein, thymolphthalein ACS grade, o-cresolphthalein, bromothymol blue, methyl orange, PAN indicator, alpha-naphtholbenzein, ferroin, potassium chromate, starch–iodide paper. Biological and microbiological stains: methylene blue AR, crystal violet, auramine, Field's Stain A and B, JSB stain, Luxol fast blue, Congo red, indigo carmine, brilliant yellow, metanil yellow, Turk's solution and WBC diluting fluid. Reagent intermediates for synthesis: 1,3-dibromopropane, 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid and similar.
Pages give the indicator's transition range and colour change, recommended concentration (for example 1% phenolphthalein in ethanol), preparation of the working solution and storage. Small packs (25 g, 100 g, 100 ml, 500 ml) ship by courier from Navi Mumbai.
Frequently asked questions
What is the pH range of phenolphthalein?
Colourless below pH 8.2, pink to magenta from 8.2 to 10.0; used for P-alkalinity titrations in boiler water.
How is 1% methylene blue solution prepared?
Dissolve 1 g methylene blue AR in 100 ml distilled water (or 95% ethanol for some stains); filter before use.
Do you supply Field's stain for malaria smears?
Yes — Field's Stain A (methylene blue/azure) and B (eosin) as ready solutions.
What is ferroin used for?
As a redox indicator (0.025 M) in COD and cerium/dichromate titrations; it changes from blue to red-brown at the end-point.
Are stains supplied as powder or solution?
Both; the page states the form and the solvent for the working solution.
