Test Kit For Water

Potable Water Test Kit

The RXSOL Potable Water Test Kit lets shipboard personnel check drinking water — whether loaded from shore or produced on board — and show inspectors that quality is being monitored as the conventions require. It measures pH (tester plus buffer set), free and total chlorine (ampoule kit with colour comparator) and the presence or absence of total coliforms and E. coli (test kit with UV lamp and goggles), with a dechlorinating agent for the bacteriological sample, all in a rugged carrying case. Water should be tested weekly, whenever potable water is taken on, and as the flag or port administration requires, with results logged and kept for at least 12 months.

Potable Water Test Kit

Overview

RXSOL POTABLE WATER TEST KIT is a monitoring kit enabling shipboard personnel to regularly test the drinking water onboard to help determine whether it is suitable for drinking. The Convention requires the vessel crew to frequently inspect their potable water system and monitor the quality of drinking water, itself. RXSOL POTABLE WATER TEST KIT  enables shipboard personnel to test the drinking water as part of their inspection procedures and demonstrate they are monitoring water quality.

Dosage and directions

RXSOL POTABLE WATER TEST KIT contains everything needed to monitor the drinking water onboard in accordance with WHO guidelines. The kit measures pH, free and total chlorine, plus total coliforms and E.coli bacteria. Because variation in the pH level can affect chlorination, it is important to monitor and control the pH. Additionally, potable water should be free of bacteria that are harmful to humans. Testing for coliform bacteria determines whether or not harmful bacteria are present. The test is an important safety measure, especially when potable water is loaded in port.

Chlorine testing is done using the DPD  Activator solution is used to determine total chlorine (the sum of free and combined chlorine). Chlorine level is determined using kit  and a visual color comparator . Presence/absence test for simultaneous detection of total coliforms and E.coli is done by using Coliform kit.

It should be noted that the sample must be incubated 18-24 hours at 34.5 °C to 37 °C.

Frequently asked questions

What should drinking water on a ship read?

Free chlorine 0.2–0.5 ppm after contact, pH 6.5–8.5 (pH matters because chlorination is less effective above 8), and no coliforms/E. coli.

Can the kit be refilled?

Yes — each reagent (buffers, chlorine ampoules, coliform media, dechlorinating agent) has its own part number.

Does it cover turbidity and colour?

The basic kit covers pH, chlorine and bacteria; an extended kit adds turbidity, colour and temperature tests on request.
